Tips for lighting
Always remember that the lighting has a
very large factor on the aesthetical appeal of a room. Lighting helps to
create atmosphere, set moods, and accent a style that one could be
trying to achieve. The lighting of a room can hide the less favorable
qualities while accenting the more favorable ones. Fine pieces of home
architecture or art for example can be lessened in due to poor lighting.
There are three generalized categories of room lighting.
1. General Lighting:
This is also known as ambient lighting, and this is essential to any
lighting plan. Ambient illuminates a space and allows one to traverse
said space safely. Chandeliers, ceiling lighting, lanterns outdoors, and
mounted and un-mounted fixtures are all good examples of ambient
lighting.
2. Task Lighting:
This lighting is used when focus is to be put on working in a certain
area, examples include desk lamps for reading or studying or doing many
other tasks. This is often provided but pendant lighting track lighting,
or portable lamps. Task lighting needs to be free of glare but still
bright enough to avoid creating eyestrain.
3. Accent Lighting:
This is used to add depth to a room by creating points of interesting
through the effects of lighting. Accenting paintings, plants, art, or
your decorating scheme are the focus of accent lighting. This type of
lighting requires at least three times more light then the ambient
lighting focused around the focal points. Track, recessed and wall
fixtures are often used for accent lighting.
